| Primary
Dance |
| (8
- 12yrs) |
|
|
|
|
| This
class incorporates a few fun dancing
games, and simple follow-instructor
warm-ups, before a world dance experience
(usually 1-2 different world dance routines
taught per week). World dance styles
include Salsa, African, Disco, Country
and Western, Cabaret, Asian Contemporary
and new for 2010; Retro Dance and Body
Percussion! Kids use all our fabulous
costume props every class (as shown
for Junior dance). Last, but not least…
kids learn funk/ hip hop routines that work on each week. These routines, along with some world dance routines learnt, will be performed in the Moonchild Dance concert in 2010 or 2011, for those choosing this option. |

| Junior Open Dance |
| (3
- 7yrs) |
|
|
|
|
| This
class keeps the emphasis on ballet as
fun, by teaching kids the basics of
ballet technique, including simple positions
and the joy of expressing softness and
gentleness through movement. Kids will
learn mini ballet-routines to traditional
and popular mainstream music. The first half of the class will focus solely on ballet, while the second half of the class will incorporate a few fun dancing games and world dance styles, including some hip hop. As enjoyable as ballet is, we desire kids to keep enjoying it and what it can offer, however, we do not want kids to feel stifled by so much structure, that ballet can often entail, that they lose the joy of dance and this is therefore why we are incorporating some "free" dance into both "ballet" classes. |
|
| Senior Open Dance |
| (8
- 12yrs) |
|
|
|
|
| This
class focuses on age-specific/appropriate ballet technique and movement, including teaching
kids “names” of specific
ballet movements and sequences, as would
be learned in a standard syllabus ballet
class… but without the pressure
of actually doing ballet exams…
and without the expense! Kids will learn
some beautiful choreographed ballet
routines that they will work on each
week. The last third or this class will focus on dancing games, world dance styles and hip hop routines. Please read the elaboration of "Junior Open Dance" to understand why we are "adding" this to our ballet classes. |
